Old School funky family
The Old School Funky Family has been spreading out their groove across France’s various stages and festivals for the past ten years. Also known as OSFF, the eight musicians carry out a fusion blessed by jazz influences and powered by the punch of funk and Nigerian afrobeat.
OSFF gets its inspiration from the early 90’s jazz-fusion scene masterminded by Roy Hargrove. It also comes from a more classical jazz. In their use of the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, you can feel a Count Basie and Duke Ellington vibe, sometimes very subtle and smooth, sometimes utterly dynamic.
But there is no doubt the musicians of OSFF were raised with funk. It is that passion that brought them together. Each of their riff sweats the spirit of James Brown, Maceo Parker and Tower of Power’s music, creating a deep groove that sends us back to the golden age of funk.
OSFF is some fiery club funk and not some aseptic disco. Their objective is to heat up the dance floor and please the most discerning ears at the same time.
